IRMCo SHOWCASES NEXT PROJECT ADVANCES IN REMOTE SENSING AT COPERNICUS GENERAL ASSEMBLY

IRMCo gratefully accepted the invitation of the Copernicus Support Office to present the new satellite imagery derived products and services that were developed by the Germany company EFTAS in the Horizon2020 funded New EXploration Technologies (NEXT) project on the occasion of the Copernicus General Assembly organized during 23 and 24 November 2021.

The event celebrated 5 years of networking of the members of the Copernicus Relays and Copernicus Academy. IRMCo joined the Copernicus Academy network in 2017.

In his presentation, Dirk De Ketelaere introduced the publication ‘A Practical Toolkit addressed to Mineral Exploration and Mining Companies’. A recording of his earlier presentation at the invitation of the Horizon2020 RE-SOURCING project can be accessed here. The NEXT Toolkit publication, edited by Dirk De Ketelaere and Anna Spiteri is available for download from the Media section of the NEXT project website: www.new-exploration.tech.

Given the nature of the event, and its audience, Dirk focused his presentation on the chapters in the NEXT Toolkit that deal with mineral prospectivity mapping as well as environmental monitoring derived from satellite imagery. In the run up to the event, Sebastian Teuwsen kindly provided IRMCo with a schematic illustration of the concept design of the EFTAS Satellite Image Crawler. Sebastian is Project Manager in Research and Development; Energy, Mining and Resource Management at EFTAS Remote Sensing and Transfer of Technology GmbH, based in Münster, Germany.

Our congratulations to Stéphane Ourevitch and Annekatrien Debien of the Copernicus Support Office, for their highly successful organization of this year’s General Assembly of the Copernicus Networks, which was joined by 280 network members, 18 online exhibitors, and 55 speakers, from across the entire world. Even though the event could not be organized as a physical event, it proved a highly spirited and informative way of celebrating 5 years of networking!
